Father’s Day History

Father’s day was started to honor men in their roles as male parents. Many believed that the celebration was started on  the 5th of July, 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was founded to commemorate the 210 lost fathers in the Monongah Mining disaster in West Virginia, December 6, 1907.  But that day wasn’t registered because of all other huge events in West Virginia.

Sonora Smart Dodd came up with her own version of Father’s Day in the year 1910. Her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran, was also a single parent who raised her Sonora and her 5 siblings. They lived in Spokane, Washington. There were so many proclamations on Father’s Day. The latest was the Father’s Day proclamation made by President Nixon in 1972. He said that Father’s Day should be celebrated in the third Sunday of June.

Modern Dads

As the head of the family, fathers used to leave the house and earn for their families. But with today’s unpredictable economy, many have preferred to stay at home and earn as they did their part in raising their families. Because women also have work outside the home, there are men who find it more convenient to work at home. This way, they could manage the household while their wives go to work. This is the world of the father who manages his business even if he doesn’t leave the home. He can do virtually anything with the use of his laptop and phone. He could even get his business ready for procurement without thinking that he is neglecting his family. Entrepreneurs who are fathers at the same time have already discovered the convenience of virtual marketing and procurement at the same time. This is their latest weapon against the surge of economic fluctuations—absolutely amazing to witness.

This kind of effort to help raise the family is even more impressive. You can see how driven these fathers are when it comes to building a stable future for their family.
