Small Businesses Get Closer to their 23 Percent Share of Government Contract Dollars

Records of 2008 and 2009 reveal that small businesses are getting closer toward gaining their 23 percent share of the federal government’s contracting dollars. In 2008, the percentage reached 21.5. After a year, it was up by .4 percent. Records for 2010 are not available yet, but the head of the Small Business Administration, Karen Mills, is confident that the numbers will be in the positive.

Yearly, small businesses win government contracts worth $100 billion. Should the 23 percent goal of the state be realized, this will definitely mean an increase in figures. The federal government hopes that this will happen because it views contracting as its direct assistance to the success of small firms.
